Mergon International is one of Ireland’s premier plastics moulding businesses, covering most industry sectors.
One of their divisions specialises in medical healthcare products which are produced and assembled in their Class 8 Clean Room facilities and their healthcare team has extensive experience in the IQ, OQ, PQ process.
When Mergon were taking investment decisions about the in house manufacture of a product for Hibergene, they needed a small, efficient and technically very accurate moulding machine so that the close tolerances for the product could be consistently maintained in 24/7 production. The latest generation Babyplast 10 tonne clamp force machine was selected and the first machine was delivered in June this year.
Whilst a small machine, nevertheless the Babyplast features all the process control functions of any full scale moulding machine and its piston plastification and injection systems offer unparalleled accuracy for a competitively low initial cost.
Over the longer term, its small platen design enables full production tooling to be produced at a fraction of the cost of that for bigger machines. In its standard form, the Babyplast handles all materials except LSR but the latest machines can also be easily fitted with LSR moulding equipment and can even be utilised for two shot moulding (either ex factory supply or retro fitted).
Sean Gardner, Mergon’s Process and Continuous Improvement Engineer says he is extremely pleased with the machine and hopes that they can utilise more Babyplast machines in the future.
